The history of the Löwen

The Lion Schönbronn has been in family ownership since 1815. At that time, my great-great-great-grandfather still had a farm with a few animals, some farming and a right to serve and brew beer, as was common in the past on many farms with a small restaurant.

In addition to regional, German cuisine, the home-brewed Löwen-Bier was also served until the beginning of the 20th century. After the war and the death of my grandfather, my father finally took over the farm and the country inn from my grandmother.

After completing my training as a cook at the age of 15 in the Alte Post in Nagold, I took over the Landgasthof Löwen at the age of 20. At that time the parent company and a small agricultural business belonged to it. In addition, my father burned our Swabian fruit water still here in the house.

Above all, I have always been able to rely on my sisters, family and loyal friends. In the course of time I concentrated more and more on the hotel and restaurant business as well as banquet events. In 1993 I married my wonderful wife Margit. Not only do I owe her a lot of support here in Leo, by always having her back, but above all I owe her my beloved children and grandchildren.

Since the end of last year, my son Friedrich, after his very successful apprenticeship as a chef and various positions in Germany and abroad, has been involved in the daily business and is now responsible for the kitchen. Thus we are now already in the seventh generation!

Overall, the Lion has undergone constant change and modernisation over the last 50 years. In the meantime I can proudly say that we are a family-run, rural and quality-conscious 4-star conference hotel with our own restaurant.

It is always important for us to be regional and sustainable. Our two largest construction projects were probably the extension in the mid-1990s with a large ballroom and the expansion of room capacity with the construction of the apartment building in 2010.

Meanwhile we have 24 rooms, 21 apartment suites, up to 6 meeting rooms and space to host up to 300 people at the same time.

In addition to the Lion show kitchen and the rustic wine cellar, a small but fine spa area with TechnoGym equipment was added.
